Reconstruction of the Fables: On Police Shootings in an Albuquerque Neighborhood
Images of state-sanctioned violence are ever present in our lives through news, television, and social media. Now more than ever the horrifying reality of death, murder, and destruction is available for us to view and consume. The proliferation of such media has created a desensitization to the actions of state actors utilizing brutal tactics on its citizens. The mayhem no longer feels real as a result of this saturated immediacy. Reconstruction of the Fables finds author m.e. gamlem rotating the scope and focusing in on the police shootings on a one-mile stretch of road, blocks from their urban home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The life, death and aftermath of three men shot, two of which were killed by APD officers, are examined to connect, rather than separate from bombardment of hopelessness found on our screens.
